Media Outreach

  • Use traditional (newspapers, television, radio) and social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube) to publicize campaigns, protests, actions, etc.

  • Send brief, pithy press releases at least two or three days before event. Include name and cell phone number of a contact person who can be reached before, during and after the event.

  • Submit op-eds to local newspapers and maintain a social media blog.

  • Be clear and transparent in your goals.

  • Cultivate relationships with members of media.

  • Create your own media through websites, newsletters and social media.

  • Document, video-recording, your protests and action not only for your own records, but to also identify any disruptive provocateurs who aren’t part of your organization.
